Dear Widow Browne,
If you could please, ma’am, send Shamus over with the following fixings:
A loaf of English Brown bread, a small bottle of white wine (and something to measure a pint with), a quart bottle of white vinegar, a small tin of cinnamon, another of ground black pepper, a little ginger, a few cloves, and two large onions. I also need a jug of olive oil, we only got vegetable oil here.
You, Shamus, and Miss Kelly are invited to dinner on Sunday with Father Sean, Sister Marie, Fitzy and Mr. and Mrs. Murphy. Even though the ghost doesn’t eat, he’ll be here too. Pegleg and me are whipping up a big plate of Pike in galantine, straight out of the 1500s.

Sincerely, your friend, Beauregard Eustace Calhoun |
