Merry Christmas, Again!

I can't believe that we're already to next Christmas. It seems like just yesterday when I wrote my last Christmas narrative here. Alas, I don't think I'll have time to write a new one (we'll see), which is too bad. I had a great idea for it. Several different versions of Santa Clause have cropped up...

Re: Large gap since last read

Hey kapeman

King Kolbold Revived does indeed deal with Rod's reconciliation with the crown and Magnus' early besting of villains. I recommend it highly, but then I'm biased. It was the first Stasheff book I read, and I've never been the same since!

Re: Respect and best wishes

Allow me to second what Arsen says. Your works are masterworks. There is absolutely no good reason for why all your stuff is not still in bookstores and being republished all the time. You are one of the greats in science fiction and fantasy. And I'll constantly sing your praises to anybody that wil...

Re: Merry Christmas, Gramarye!!

Coming from you, that's great praise indeed! Just wanted to use that little scene to express all the joy your created worlds have brought me over the last 30 years. Thanks so much!

Merry Christmas, Gramarye!!

Here’s how I imagine a Christmas morning long ago (in the far future) on Gramarye when the Gallowglass children were still young. The family has just opened their presents, and big brother Magnus thrusts and parries with his first real sword and shield. Geoffrey is jealous since he is too young to h...

Why is Magnus a giant?

Mr. Stasheff, I’ve been reading some of the Rogue Wizard series, and I keep wondering about Magnus/Gar’s giant nature—not so much how he got to be one but why you made him one. For my cinema-driven generation, the giant is often the villain who fights against the smaller, underdog hero. Darth Vader ...

Re: How I Discovered The Warlock Series

Breeman,

There's some chatter about Mr. Stasheff and the Warlock series on John C. Wright's online journal. You should check it out:

I too have read and re-read them all. Long live Gramayre. Excelsior!

Re: Rod a Petrarchan Lover?

Mr. Stasheff, I've read very little of Petrarch too, but you're certainly right about his ideas appearing all over the place. Along with Homer, Virgil, and the Bible, Petrarch influences lyric poetry and heroic narrative throughout the Middle Ages/Renaissance. Consider Book 9 of Paradise Lost, for i...

Rod a Petrarchan Lover?

Mr. Stasheff, Did you purposely imbue Rod with the spirit of a Petrarchan lover? His life, and even his death, seems motivated by his worship of Gwen. Of course, unlike the unattainable woman of Petrarchan tradition, Gwen is attainable. But Rod never feels completely worthy of her and always strives...
